We are connecting communities to resources for energy efficiency, sustainability, and affordable homes.
We are a "just transition" organization focusing on democratic economies and energy independence within Birmingham and the beautiful state of Alabama. We are connecting people to resources to achieve these goals. This transition will be supported by popular education in cooperative economics and sustainable uses of energy, land, and water.
SWEET Alabama’s vision is dedicated to pragmatic solutions that can create real change in Alabama.
Our programs are designed to be implemented in partnership with affected households and communities to create lasting change.

We accomplished so much in 2022 and expanded our Home Energy Retrofit (HER)
Program...from our in-person residential energy efficiency workshops to free home energy

As a three-pillared initiative with multiple points of community
engagement, the HER Program lowers utility costs, improves residents’
health, and organizes people-powered movements to mitigate racial inequity.
We host an all-day workshop at a residence in our target communities and teach the homeowner and invited community members how to energy retrofit housing.
We have a new tool lending library where residents and groups can access SWEET’s inventory of tools and equipment!
We host a program designed to teach energy retrofitting skills, support youth interested in green careers, and amplify our base-building efforts to drive climate equity.
